     Number Systems and Algebra Concepts

    In Unit 6, students use multiplication patterns to help them establish the rules for multiplying and dividing by positive and negative numbers.  They also develop and use an algorithm for dividing fractions.

    In the rest of the unit, students begin to explore early algebra concepts. Students review to determine whether a number sentence is true or false. This involves understanding what to do with numbers that are grouped  within parenthesis and knowing the order of operations. Students will solve equations by replacing a variable to make the number sentence true.
