• Our Water Pollution Unit, which helps students connect big ideas in science to their own lives.   This unit will encourage students observe water resources in their area and consider what choices they can make to conserve and protect those resources.

    During the Water Pollution Unit, students will:

    • Discover how community planning affects water resources

    • Explore how topography affects water flow above and below the earth’s surface

    • Analyze data to determine the source of underground pollution

    • Learn how pollutions accumulate in food webs

    • Observe the benefits of wetlands and estuaries

    • Determine water quality with biotic and abiotic indicators

    • Debate land development, considering both economic benefits and environmental impact

    • Explore how technology protects water resources

       

    We will be doing many science experiments and activities that will focus on science skills during this unit. The specific science skills for focus and development are:

    • Observing- noting relevant details of the environment and/or experiments
    • Recording- describing and recording observations through notes, diagrams and statements
    • Interpreting- drawing conclusions from observations and records
    • Presenting- communicating what has been learned
